PPI and its member cooperatives provide a variety of economic development services.  These services include:

  • Community Development Assistance
  • New Business/Industry Location Assistance
  • Existing Business/Industry Assistance

These services are coordinated through Prairie Power, Inc.’s Marketing & Business Development Department:

Community Development Assistance

Prairie Power, Inc. and its member electric distribution cooperatives are involved in numerous local, state, and national economic development organizations.  These organizations include:  private, public, and private/public sector economic development corporations, foundations, councils, commissions, chambers of commerce, and regional corridor councils; Community Development Corporations; the Rural Partners Initiative, and the Illinois Development Council.  Through membership in these organizations, PPI and its distribution cooperatives have knowledge of, and access to, local, regional, and national economic development professionals, and programs.  PPI and its member cooperatives can provide technical and financial support to:

  • Community Planning
  • Infrastructure Development
  • Leadership Development
  • Property Development
  • Organizational Development
  • Community Marketing for Investment
New Business/Industry Location Assistance

We provide a variety of new business/industry location assistance, which include providing:

  • Available Site and Building Information
  • Community/Regional Demographic Information
  • Local and State Cost of Doing Business Data
  • Energy Cost Studies, Equipment, and Services Information
  • Electric Facilities Planning, and Engineering Assistance
  • Information on Local, State, and National Financing and Training Assistance Programs
  • Information on Business/Industry Location Incentives
  • Information on Local, Regional, and State Development Agencies, Their Contacts, Services, and Programs
  • Contractors and Building Cost Information
  • Site, Building, and/or Community Tours

These services are provided at no cost or obligation to business or industry officials seeking assistance in the location of new facilities in the service area of Prairie Power, Inc. and its electric distribution cooperatives.

Available Sites & Buildings

Prairie Power, Inc. and its member cooperatives maintain an “available sites and buildings” database which includes specific information on the physical features and characteristics of business/industrial buildings and green acre sites available for lease or purchase for business development purposes.   This database includes property information such as:
Available business sites - size and location of property, zoning, topography, surrounding land use, access to utilities and transportation infrastructure, aerial site photos, sale and/or lease prices, etc.
Available business buildings – size and location of property, zoning, prior use, ceiling heights, floor thickness, heating and air conditioning systems, truck docks and doors, existing utilities, transportation infrastructure, available acreage, interior and exterior photos, sale and/or lease prices, etc.

Marketing

PPI and its electric distribution cooperatives provide a variety of marketing services and programs to cooperative members.

These services/programs may vary from cooperative to cooperative, but include:

  • Rebates, incentives, and low-cost financing for installation of electric technologies, such as geothermal and other energy efficient heating and cooling systems, electric water heaters, etc.
  • Special electric rates for interruptible service, electric heat, controlled appliances/systems, dual fuel heating systems, grain drying, as well as season and time of day energy usage.
  • Sale, rental, and/or installation of security lighting, appliances, direct satellite TV, and whole house and appliance surge protectors.
  • Technical advice on electric technologies, energy efficient construction practices, energy use (audits), electric load management, and engineering.
  • Levelized bill payment plans, toll free customer service lines, and member newsletters.

Your Illinois electric cooperatives have committed to the following service goals:

Area Coverage — extension of reliable electric service to every home, farm, and business located in the electric cooperative service area.

Balanced Industry & Agriculture — electric power in all areas of Illinois is an essential ingredient of a successful and prosperous agricultural and industrial economy.

Efficient Energy Use — since their inception, cooperatives have supported consumer programs that encourage the wise, efficient, and economical use of available energy resources.

Sound Business & Farm Economy — electric cooperative members believe that only through the American free-enterprise system can we remain free and our economy develop to its full potential; electric cooperative member-consumers are helping Illinois and its citizens grow and prosper.
